Through surveillance operations, the police were able to identify several alleged suppliers of illegal cigarettes in the region. |
Man Arrested on Steroid Importation Charges Yesterday, the police searched a residence located in the Lower St. Lawrence area, near Trois-Pistoles, as part of a joint investigation conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). |
International Criminal Organization Allegedly Involved in a $100 million Fraud Dismantled This morning, the RCMP and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), with the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM) and several other municipal police departments executed 61 arrest warrants in the Greater Montreal and northern fringe areas for their alleged involvement in a major international payment card fraud ring. The potential fraud is estimated at close to $100 million. |

The accused allegedly attempted to extort money from restaurant owners in exchange for lower income tax assessments. |
International Partnership Leads to the Seizure of 43.3 Tonnes of Hashish A police operation conducted today by the RCMP resulted in the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the importation of a series of hashish shipments totalling 43.3 metric tonnes. The RCMP Seizes Cigarettes, Cigars and Marihuana Tuesday, February 28, police officers from the Centre-du-Québec-Mauricie Detachment seized smuggled cigarettes and cigars, marihuana and pills at a Trois-Rivières residence. A 57 year old woman was arrested and released after interrogation. She could face charges of selling tobacco products not properly stamped under the 2001 Excise Act and possession of a drug with intent to traffic under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. |
Smuggling Ring Busted – Eight Individuals Arrested Yesterday afternoon, investigators from the RCMP Customs and Excise Section arrested eight individuals in the suburbs, north of Quebec City. This investigation targeted a tobacco smuggling ring and resulted in the seizure of more than 600,000 illicit cigarettes. Officers also seized seven vehicles used for contraband. |
Two Individuals Arrested in Val-d'Or for Smuggling Investigators from the Abitibi-Témiscamingue-Nouveau-Québec Detachment, together with officers from the Sûreté du Québec, arrested two individuals near Val d'Or on February 28. Officers identified and intercepted a suspicious vehicle and a search of said vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 130,000 illegal cigarettes. |

Charges Laid in Connection With Multi-Million Dollar Mortgage Fraud A major police investigation conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Major Fraud Unit of Commercial Crime Section of Montreal, has led to the identification of at least two individuals involved in several cases of mortgage fraud. Montréal residents Kinh Ho Quan, 56, and Hermel Bossé, 58, were arrested earlier this week and charged with fraud over $5,000. |

Man Arrested in Alleged Employment Insurance Fraud Investigators of the RCMP Commercial Crime Section, Major Fraud Unit, searched a residence and arrested an individual as a result of an investigation into allegations of employment insurance fraud estimated to be over $400,000. |
RCMP Dismantle a Major Marihuana Grow Operation Yesterday morning, investigators of the RCMP Laurentides-Lanaudière-Outaouais Detachment dismantled a marihuana grow operation and seized 2,700 marihuana plants with the assistance of the Saint-Jérôme Police Service. Two suspects were arrested and will face criminal charges. |
Foreign Scammers Attempt to Defraud Citizens in the Gaspé Region Citizens in the Gaspé region have been receiving letters bearing the promise of a large inheritance from dead relatives who never actually existed. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigators at Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine Detachment have recorded four complaints of this nature from the public, and thus urge citizens to exercise caution by never sharing their personal banking information or sending money to anyone promising them a large sum of cash in return. |
Two Suspects Arrested on Steroid Trafficking Charges Yesterday, the police simultaneously searched two St-Georges residences, in the Beauce region, as part of a joint investigation by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the St-Georges Police Service. Nearly 3,000 pills, including many that looked like Viagra and Cialis pills and others that are believed to be steroids, were seized from the premises. The police also seized $1,080 in cash, four mobile phones and a computer. |

Beauce Resident Arrested by the RCMP for Fraudulent Bankruptcy and Contraband Last Tuesday, a Royal Canadian Police investigation into a case of fraudulent bankruptcy resulted in the laying of 10 counts of fraud against 39-year-old Gilles Ouellet of Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce. In addition, he and 23-year-old Mélissa Connelly, also from Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, face charges for selling illegal cigarettes and counterfeit Viagra. |
Suspicious Sailboat in the Gaspé Region: RCMP Looking for Public Assistance The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is requesting the assistance of residents in Gaspé’s Bay of Chaleur and in the Campbellton, New Brunswick regions who, in early October, may have witnessed suspicious activity involving a suspicious American sailboat, named the Eternity, as it was sailing illegally in Canadian waters. |

Three individuals were arrested. They could face charges, including for possession and sale of a tobacco product not properly stamped under the Excise Act 2001, and for unsafe storage of firearms. |

The officers seized some 17,000 illegal cigarettes as well as the vehicle used for the transportation of the cigarettes. |
Over 7,400 Pairs of Counterfeit Shoes Seized in Warehouse Yesterday, investigators of the Québec City Detachment Federal Investigations Section, in cooperation with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), executed a search warrant in a warehouse in Ste-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier. Some 4,000 pairs of counterfeit shoes were seized by the officers on the premises. The individuals linked to the suspect company could face charges under the Copyright Act. They could also be charged with fraud. The investigation is still ongoing. |

July 2, 2010 Attack in Trois-Rivières Investigators on site to validate information From June 30 to July 2, 2011 investigators of the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), which includes the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Sûreté du Québec, Service de police de la ville de Montréal and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, will be in Trois-Rivières for the first anniversary of the attack against the Canadian Forces recruiting centre. The main objective of the investigators is to obtain information that will enable them to validate certain elements of the investigation. |
Operation against a Criminal Organization Involved in Tobacco Smuggling This morning, some 120 police officers are taking part in a major operation in Châteauguay, Laval and Longueuil. The purpose of this operation is to put an end to the illegal activities of a huge tobacco smuggling network. The investigators managed to target the leader of this network directly as well as his associates. Six individuals were arrested and nine searches are currently being conducted in residences and businesses. Approximately fifty vehicles, including luxury and classic cars, were seized in a Châteauguay warehouse. |
Seizure of Digital Walkman Chargers that Could Pose a Threat to the Safety of the Public Officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Côte-Nord Detachment seized digital walkman chargers that did not meet manufacturing standards and about a hundred counterfeit cases during a search conducted on June 21, 2011 in a private residence in Baie-Comeau. An individual was arrested, but no charges have been filed for now. The RCMP would like to remind the public that the sale of copyrighted material is illegal and the purchase of non-compliant electrical products can pose a safety hazard. |

More than 500 police officers were involved in this operation conducted on the Kanesatake and Akwesasne Aboriginal territories, as well as in the Montréal and North Shore regions. |
Counterfeit Hubcaps Seized in Québec City This morning, Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers conducted three searches in a Québec City business specializing in the distribution of auto parts, and two related warehouses. Based on an investigation by the Québec City Federal Investigation Section, it is believed that the business imported counterfeit hubcaps to be sold across the province. |
Alleged Clandestine GHB Lab Dismantled An alleged clandestine GHB laboratory was dismantled as a result of the search. At the scene, the officers seized precursors used in the production of GHB in addition to methamphetamine pills and some marijuana. |

Suspect Charged Under The Copyright Act After a complaint was received from a citizen regarding illegal activity under the Copyright Act, the Sherbrooke Detachment RCMP Federal Investigation Section launched an investigation into the matter, resulting with charges being laid against a Sherbrooke area resident. Suzanne Brûlotte, 66, is scheduled to appear today at the Sherbrooke Court House to face four counts of indictment under section 42 of the Copyright Act. |
Two Alleged Fraudsters Arrested As a result of a short investigation, members of Centre of Operations Linked to Telemarketing Fraud (COLT), with the assistance of the Airport Federal Investigation Section (AFIS), moved quickly to apprehend two alleged fraudsters. A man and a woman were arrested yesterday at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport as they were about to defraud a Canadian citizen of a large sum of money as part of a West African-type scam that had been going on for a few weeks. |

Thousands of Counterfeit Postage Stamps Seized in Montréal and Toronto This morning, as part of an investigation into offences under the Criminal Code and the Canada Post Corporation Act, officers of the Montréal RCMP, with the co-operation of several municipal police services, made two arrests and conducted 24 searches in businesses and convenience stores in the greater Montréal area. The purpose of this operation was to prevent the illegal sale and distribution of counterfeit and reused stamps. |

Two searches were conducted in Montréal and six individuals were arrested in the Montréal and Montérégie regions. |
26,800 Contraband Cigarettes Seized in Saint-Césaire On March 2, 2011 investigators of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Montérégie Detachment conducted a search in a residence in Saint-Césaire. Some 26,800 contraband cigarettes were seized as well as two vehicles and $2,100 in cash. Three local individuals, two men and a woman, were arrested in connection with this seizure. |
2.3 Tons of Shisha Tobacco Seized by the RCMP Last March 4, Montréal Customs and Excise Section investigators seized a large quantity of Shisha tobacco from public warehouses located in Montréal and Laval. The operation led to the discovery of 8,559 boxes, each containing 250 grams of this tobacco-related product, for a total quantity of nearly 2.3 tons. This is the first major seizure of Shisha tobacco made in Quebec. |
Indoor Cannabis Grow Operation Dismantled in Saint-Colomban On March 2, 2011 members of the RCMP Laurentides-Lanaudière-Outaouais Detachment, with the assistance of the Mirabel Municipal Police Service, dismantled an indoor cannabis grow op in Saint-Colomban as a result of a search conducted in a residence located at 121, de l’Alizé street. During the search, the officers found 76 plants of cannabis, 35 kg of cannabis buds as well as 34 kg of bulk cannabis. |
Six Million Illegal Cigarettes Seized in a Trailer in the Valleyfield Region On March 3, 2011 after receiving information concerning illegal activities related to cigarette smuggling, members of the RCMP Valleyfield Office and Sûreté du Québec made a major seizure in the Saint-Anicet area. They seized 600 cases of illegal cigarettes, a semi-trailer, a trailer as well as a vehicle used to transport tobacco products. The total value of this seizure is estimated at nearly $825,000. |
Police Officers in the Greater Québec City Region Attend Training on Drugs Awareness Last week, police officers from different police services in the greater Québec City region attended a training session on drugs awareness. Three Individuals Arrested in Noyan for Illegal Immigrant Smuggling Last week, the resources put in place as part of a border security pilot project resulted in the arrest by RCMP officers of three individuals in Noyan as they were attempting to smuggle four illegal immigrants into Canada. Charges were filed against two men and a woman, and the four illegal immigrants were placed into the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). |

Thousands of Counterfeit University Books Seized As part of an investigation into offences under the Copyright Act, officers of the RCMP Federal Investigation Section conducted four searches in photocopy stores in Montréal in the last few weeks. Their objective was to put an end to the activities of groups involved in the illegal distribution and sale of photocopied university books. Some 2,700 counterfeit books and digests were seized as well as a significant quantity of material used for copying. The total value of the books seized is estimated at close to $540,000. |

Counterfeit Counterfeit Goods Seized in a Shopping Center in Québec City Last Monday, investigators of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Québec City Detachment conducted a search in a shopping center situated at 552 Wilfrid-Hamel in Québec City. After receiving information concerning alleged counterfeit goods sold in a retail stand, the officers went to the shopping centre and seized known brand name clothing and accessories, including more than 600 sweaters and some 200 belt buckles bearing the logos of the Nordiques and the Montreal Canadians among others. |

Man Arrestated in Candiac for Drug Exportation During the night of October 6, 2010, members of the RCMP Lacolle Integrated Border Enforcement Team, in partnership with the Régie intermunicipale de police Roussillon, arrested Steven Maigar, a 30-year-old resident of Candiac. Maigar was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by U.S. authorities for exportation of cannabis to the United States. |

Man Charged with Hoax Regarding Terrorist Activity Yesterday, an investigation conducted by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) resulted in charges being laid under section 83.231 of the Criminal Code against an individual who allegedly perpetrated a hoax regarding terrorist activity. If found guilty, Murad Hossain, a 50-year-old Montreal resident, is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years. Mr. Hossain also faces a charge of public mischief. |
943 Cannabis Plants Seized in Saint-Colomban Last May 28, following a short investigation, the investigators of the Laurentides-Lanaudière-Outaouais Detachment, in collaboration with the Mirabel Police Service, arrested a man after conducting a raid at 160 du Compte Street in Saint-Colomban. While searching the premises, the police found 943 cannabis plants ready to be harvested. The cannabis was seized, along with five illegally stored firearms. |
Man Arrested in Connection with Multi-Million Dollar Mortgage Fraud A major police investigation, conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commercial Crime Section, led to the identification of an individual involved in several cases of mortgage fraud. Robert Manuel Moniz, 37, of Montréal, was arrested this morning and charged with fraud, forgery and uttering forged documents. Out of approximately one hundred suspicious transactions identified, 19 were more extensively investigated and proved to be fraudulent. The fraud totalled close to five million dollars. |

Three Million Dollar Fraud - Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Resident Arrested Police arrested Kevin Gossellin-Robitaille, a 24-year-old Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel resident on Tuesday. The man faces two counts of fraud after filing for personal bankruptcy in April 2007. He is alleged to have, by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means, defrauded two groups of creditors working in the agriculture sector for an amount of nearly $3 million. |
